Ed Sheeran Divide Tour 2017 -2018
Wonder Works were delighted to be selected by production designer Mark Cunniffe and production manager Chris Marsh to do technical design for Ed Sheeran’s largest and most ambitious world tour to date – the Divide Tour.
To realise Marks’ visionary production aesthetic Wonder Works developed and oversaw an integrated design including staging, video, sound, and lighting; a sure way to create a seamless ‘look’. This was key given the main staging requirements.
Jeremy Lloyd, Wonder Works director, commented. “The build sequence is complex and was meticulously planned with an associated story-board because every element under the mother grid had to be spot on in terms of position, due to the small tolerances. We think we’ve made it as efficient for touring as possible.”
It didn’t end there. Wonder Works were also asked to design the tricky mother grid built by Litec. The unusual semi-circular structure had several high point loads which were transferred across the grid throughout the build sequence, and used chain hoists that travelled within the truss. Luckily Wonder Works technical designer Kevin Edwards and specialist engineering modelling produced highly detailed drawings and accurate weight predictions which turned out to be very close to real-life.
The tour shortly completes its UK leg and is set to move to the Americas. For more information - edsheeran.com
